Opening General Session: Defining Our Why: Starting with What Matters Most

We define core values as "WHY" you do what you do. In all instances and in every role we play, we have a reason, an intention, and a motivation. By identifying our core values, we can bring a language and vernacular to our daily life that most of us miss. We often get caught up in WHAT we do before we have the conversation around WHY we do it. If we don't start with WHY, then we have missed the boat. Understanding WHY gives us insight into how we lead, set goals, make decisions, and communicate our value to others.

A sales team is only successful when they know WHY the client needs them, and WHY their product or service is the solution. A marketing team can only communicate so much without knowing what is really driving the decision-maker to make a choice. To know where we fit in an organization means we must know where we fit personally. During this session, Rocky Garza will guide you as you look inward, make a plan, and then move outward to kick some ass.

Leading Your Parents

Due primarily to the mass exodus of Baby Boomers in the workforce, we expect to see in the coming years, mid-level managers and leaders becoming younger and younger. After a six-month training program, they are expected to step up, earn the respect of their team members, and deliver results just as quickly, if not quicker, than an industry veteran.

In this presentation, former sales executive and Millennial leader of multigenerational teams Raven Solomon will remove much of that anxiety by providing insights and proven strategies of multigenerational leadership, as covered in her new book Leading Your Parents: 25 Rules of Effective Multigenerational Leadership for Millennials & Gen Z.

Outcomes

During this presentation, attendees will:

  • Discover the three keys to multigenerational leadership and the top two rules that accompany those keys.
  • Gain insight into other generations to increase empathy and cross-generational effectiveness.
  • Learn how to overcome the negative stereotypes of Millennials & Gen Z and leverage them to your advantage, guiding team members your parents’ age, which can be an uncomfortable and intimidating task.
